As the Purina chart goes on, you will see that the dog labeled 4 and 5 in the chart is a little more filled out and looks normal and healthy. This is the ideal body image that you want for your toy poodle.

At the bottom of the Purina weight chart is an image of a dog that is very obese.  You can tell that this dog`s abdomen sticks out farther than its shoulders and belly almost touch this ground.  This dog is obese and needs to lose weight. Your toy poodle will look like this if your toy poodle is overweight.

How Spaying/ Neutering Affects Your Toy Poodle`s Weight

Many people think that spaying and neutering their pets will cause them to gain weight.  But one thing to note is that the spaying/neutering procedure is usually done around the same age that a pet`s metabolism slows down.

When a pet`s metabolism slows down, the pet gains weight. Therefore, it may seems like a pet does gain a little weight after a neutering or spaying procedure.  This is just a coincidence. The weight gain is not due to the surgery. The weight gain is because the pet has reached the age where its metabolism slows down.

Once you spay or neuter your toy poodle, it would also be best to decrease the amount that you are feeding them to help prevent them from gaining weight.
