A Poodle’s Puddle Disaster (September 7, 2020)

poodle chases egrets

Today, I took my poodle on a walk. And we saw some egrets on our walk.

My poodle always gets excited when she sees egret. I believe the egrets trigger her instinct as a hunting dog. Standard poodles have traditionally been used as water retrievers for hunting ducks. Poodles have also been used for bird hunting.

In fact, poodles are believed to have originated in Germany a long time ago as dogs for hunting ducks. The word “poodle” actually comes from the German word “pudelin,” which in English means “splashing in the water”.

So today, I decided to let her exercise her hunting instincts. I let her off the leash to run after the bunch of egrets.

I knew her effort would be futile. The egrets would fly away before she could reach them. But I wanted her to have some fun chasing egrets anyways.

She started running towards the egrets when I let her off the leash.

However, I did not know that there was a puddle between my poodle and the egrets. My poodle did not know either. And my poodle crashed into the puddle.

Yikes!

And there goes the cuteness of my adorable poodle.

We had to interrupt our walk to do damage control to restore my poodle`s cuteness. I took her home and gave her a good bath.

Now, she is good.

I think me and my poodle have both learned our lessons.
